Farsightedness (Hyperopia) affects about one-fourth of the population. Hyperopia occurs when the eyeball is shorter than normal, causing light rays to focus behind the retina instead of directly on it. Farsighted people can see distant objects clearly, but struggle with seeing nearby items. Farsightedness, like myopia, can be corrected with glasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery (Lasik).
